We stayed at Al Hamra for our first wedding anniversary in early July. July is supposed to be off season in Kenya, but the weather was beautiful – hot days with a light breeze and cooler nights.

We have been to some amazing places in Europe Asia and America but this surpasses anywhere we have stayed in terms of luxury and high end accommodation. Stunning interior design and decor, with a highly detailed finish. Each suite has an indoors-outdoors relaxation area nestled amongst the treetops. The infinity salt plunge pool and swimming pool are beautiful in the sunshine or at sunset when the lights come on.

There is an outstanding level of service and attention to small details from freshly washed and ironed laundry to hand picked flowers from housekeeping to pre-dinner drinks and afternoon tea.

Al Hamra is one of the most beautiful homes I have ever visited in my life. It is exquisitely put together and each little touch is so wonderfully considered. The pool is amazing, and it looks so enticing from the moment you arrive. The bedrooms are luxurious without being ostentatious, and the décor feels as if it’s been plucked from the palaces of those traders which profited most from the Arabian spice routes hundreds of years ago.

The staff are friendly, attentive and the most smiley and welcoming people I’ve ever met.

What an astonishing place, unfortunately the range of my vocabulary will not do this beautiful house justice, suffice to say it is the most amazing house I’ve ever stayed in, the architecture is superb and the interior has been furnished and designed quite perfectly. Coupled with the fact that it is situated on this fantastic white sandy beach,  I feel very lucky to have spent time here and also in the company of the owners of the property who went out of their way to make my stay even more memorable, thank you for ‘making things happen’.

To Nigel and all the staff at Al Hamra, thank you for what was comfortably one of the best trips I’ve ever experienced. What an introduction to Kenya! Watamu is such a beautiful place and Al Hamra allows you to experience it in such luxury. I have to say I’m very fortunate to have been allowed to stay here and cannot thank Nigel enough for his generosity. Hopefully this won’t be my last encounter with Kenya as it’s quite easy to see why so many people fall in love with the place.

3 weeks in Al Hamra- what a trip! There is no better way to stay in Watamu! Thank you so much to Nigel, Alberto and all the staff for making it so special. I hope I can return soon to continue the charity work we have started. One of the highlights must be watching a turtle relieve itself on Robbie’s shirt!
